About
Brazilian tenor Ewandro Stenzowski is in demand internationally both on the opera stage and in the concert repertoire. His engagements have taken him to renowned venues including the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Opéra de Massy, Theater Erfurt, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, and the Württembergische Staatsoper Stuttgart, as well as opera houses in Freiburg, Winterthur, Heidelberg, Osnabrück, Görlitz, and Kaiserslautern. He has also appeared at the Alden Biesen Summer Opera Festival in Belgium, the Teatro Comunale di Sassari, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège and the Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
His operatic repertoire spans major roles from the Italian, German, and Slavic repertoire, including Cavaradossi (Tosca), the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Canio (Pagliacci), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), Macduff (Macbeth), Erik (Der fliegende Holländer), Herodes (Salome), Števa (Jenůfa), Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Aegisth (Elektra), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), and the Prince in Dvořák’s Rusalka.
His concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Bruckner’s Te Deum, Verdi’s and Mozart’s Requiem, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle, Frank Martin’s Et in Terra pax, and Dvořák’s Stabat Mater. With the Mainz Cathedral Choir and Orchestra, he recorded live César Franck’s Les Sept Paroles du Christ.
He studied at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and continued his training in Italy and at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, where he completed his soloist diploma. During his studies he already gained extensive stage experience in Brazil, including a recording of Schumann’s Dichterliebe for Brazilian National Radio and DVD recordings of works by José Maurício Nunes Garcia.
Throughout his career he has collaborated with stage directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Giancarlo del Monaco, Graham Vick, Jossi Wieler, Yannis Kokkos, Davide Livermore, Georg Rootering, and Dirk Schmeding, and with conductors including Sylvain Cambreling, Omer Meir Wellber, Federico Santi, Giampaolo Bisanti, Michael Schønwandt, Helmuth Rilling, Roberto Minczuk, and Cornelius Meister, among others.
Recent engagements include Erik (Der fliegende Holländer) in São Paulo and Wiesbaden, Narraboth (Salome) at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and Herodes at the Teatro Comunale di Sassari. In 2026 he returns to Theater Erfurt for his debut as Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, revisits Canio at the Thüriger Schlossfestspiele and will sing one of the leading roles in the world premiere of Guilherme Bernstein’s opera Chica da Silva in Brazil.
Between 2006 and 2010, Ewandro didn’t dedicate himself only to music. He was a full-time member of the Brazilian Marine Corps (Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais). Meanwhile, he pursued further studies in Rio de Janeiro, trying to manage a very challenging schedule. Eventually, he took part in competitions, which brought him some of his first professional appearances, helping him pave his way to Europe, where he joined the class of Prof. Ulrike Sonntag in Stuttgart, to whom he is deeply grateful.
